What do Parents Think of Safe Social Networking?

Every parent knows the delight and trials of Parents' Evening at school. But suppose your child is at an online school of 120,000 children and 13,000 teachers - where do you start to find out how your child is doing?

SuperClubsPLUS runs regular Parent's Evenings - open forums where parents can ask questions and the mediators take the Hot Seat and try to answer them.

The children take it very seriously. They take their parents for a tour of the site and then invite them into the forum for a chat.

Here's some of the questions and answers from the latest Parents' Evening forum.

Mostly they wanted to know about safety, how to help their kids get the best from it and why the community didn't stay open later in the evenings.

Ryan's Dad
Can any outsiders email into the clubs?

Mediator
No, absolutely not! Only internal emails pass through the system.

Holly's Mum
What is the emergency bell is for

Mediator
if a SuperClubber sees something that upsets them or seriously breaks one of the rules, they can send the duty mediator an Emergency email which will receive top priority.

Holly's Dad
what happens if some one gets suspended

Mediator
We only suspend after a series of warning so it shouldnt come as a surprise. When a child is suspended they cant log in again for a day or a week or even a month if they have been in trouble before. We always inform the school if someone is suspended but luckily it doesnt happen very often.

Sarah jane's Mum
How is scp safe for my child?

Mediator
SuperClubs is about as safe as a site can possibly be. We only allow children to communicate with each other and their own teachers and we monitor emails, forums, home pages and articles all the time the Clubs are open from 8am to 8pm.

Robert's Dad.
Robert has shown me all over the site and I must say I am really impressed - especially the Stars and Codes - I couldn't do that! Keep up the good work SuperClubs

Mediator
Thank you

Abbi's Dad
I think superclubs is great I like the Santa's Grotto!
How many emergency help emails do you get a day?

Mediator
We're glad you like it.
The duty mediator can get anything between 5 and 20 Emergency emails in an evening, but sometimes they aren't real emergencies, just a child getting confused about something. There are very few real emergencies to deal with.

Rebecca's mum
Hello, Rebecca's mum here.
There has been lots to do on SuperClubs during 2007, some great parties, competitions and events to keep the children coming back for more.
Would you be able to tell me what is planned for 2008? Are there some exciting new activities or features coming up (or would that be spoiling the surprise )?

Mediator
Hi Rebecca's mum - yes we have had a great year. There are lots of new things planned for 2008 - one rather special feature will be the Sticky Storm (SSSHHH its a secret

Beth's Mum
Beth enjoys going on the website very much will she be able to go on when she goes to high school she finds superclubs very enjoyable and is worring what will happen after the summer hols merry christmas to you all.
Nicole's Dad
This site is wonderful and captures Nicole's interest very much. It would be nice if she could continue beyond age 11. I am grateful that the site closes early so that we have time to read books.

Mediator
She can continue beyond the age of 11 by using our sister site, GoldStarCafe, for 11-15 year olds. Beth and Nicole will be given a GoldStarCafe account shortly before leaving Primary school.

Chelsie's Dad :
How did Superclubs and the RSPCA link up? I think its great how the children can share their views on this great and educational website!

Mediator
Hi Chelsie's Dad We are working with the RSPCA on another project, when they saw SuperClubsPLUS they thought it a good opportunity to get feedback on their own site.

Teri's Mum
Why dosent superclubs stay open till about 8:30? I think children would like superclubs even MORE if it is open a while longer and they will have the oppatunaty to do more of their site and they can keep in contact with their freinds for much longer.

Mediator
Most parents and teachers like us closing at 8 - it gives the children a chance to read or even talk to their parents / siblings

Amys Auntie
Why are you opening on christmas day ?

Mediator
So that SuperClubbers can say Happy Christmas to each other
