SuperClubsPLUS Mobile just got better!
Intuitive Media has just completed a major upgrade to its SuperClubsPLUS Mobile social learning network.
STOP PRESS! See the SCHOOLZONE Evaluation of SCP Mobile.
The pioneering network has enabled children aged 6 to 12 to to use mobile devices and portable games consoles to safely email (all messages are mediated) their SuperClubber friends and take part in forums with kids across the UK and overseas.
But now children can also build their SuperClubsPLUS websites from their mobile phones and devices. They can also visit the online Clubs devoted to global issues, music, film, books, sports and exercise etc. and submit their own articles to the Club magazines - directly from their PDAs, smartphone, PSP or Nintendo DS.
Intuitive Media has created a new On The Move Club devoted to mobile learning. It launched with a competition to see who visits SuperClubsPLUS from the strangest place. It seems children now access SuperClubsPLUS from just about anywhere:
"I went downstairs and into the garden where there was a big gap in the bush so I went really far into the bush and then I spent about 45 minutes on superclubsplus then I saw a huge spider and ran out really quickly. (While I was on my mobile I got my Blue star)" - Theo. 9The upgrade now allows children to take their learning with them wherever they go. Here are just some of the things they can do with SCP on their mobiles:
"I was on top of the roof of a slide in the park. I then got some signal, so I was sitting on top of the roof for an hour and a half!!! lol" - Charlotte, 10
"Hi, I'm from England and we were going to Greece for our holiday. I was really beautiful. Then I got bored yet there was another week to go. I got my moblie out and got on to superclubsplus!!! It was really cool. I am not going to leave home with out it ever again!!!" - Rebecca, 9
- Safe Texting - emailing SCP friends is just like texting on a mobile and when children can get wi-fi it can be a FREE keep in touch. Children can also keep in touch in the forums - even in Starbucks at the weekend!
- School Trips - Teachers can set up a School Trip Forum so children can keep in touch with each other and their friends back at school during the school journey.
- Homepage and Club Articles - Children on holiday often have ideas for their home pages or for articles for the Club magazines. Now they can write their articles and email them to their SCP accounts.
- Photos Anywhere - wherever they go, children can take photos with their mobile's camera. Later they can bluetooth or USB them to a PC or Mac and upload to their SCP home pages or club articles.

yes, I can somehow relate to this need for our kids to stay "updated on global issues, music, films and books, etc...". But does it mean that the kids won't be able to escape technology (devices such us PDAs, smartphone, PSP or Nintendo DS - what are they, by the way?)even on holidays or playing in the woods? Maybe it's good if they get bored from time to time?
Or is it the case in England that children have these devices with them all the time anyway and SuperClubs just adds more meaning and valuable content to this child-device symbiosis?

Just to say the new SuperClubsPLUS upgrade gets the THUMBS UP from pupils using handheld devices at Capel-le-Ferne Primary School near Folkestone in Kent.
The children have made full use of SuperClubsPLUS throughout the school and more recently using SuperClubs on their handheld ‘EDA’ devices. They love the fact that they can now view and build their homepages as well: this is a real step forward. SuperClubs is providing unrivalled functionality – compared to other organizations who adapt (or dumb-down) their websites for use on handheld devices.
The new SuperClubs service offers tremendous opportunities to teachers who are taking groups out on school trips with handheld devices and smart phones.
We recently visited Crabble Mill near Dover. This historic site enjoys a WIFI network – so Capel pupils were able to log on to SuperClubsPlus. They received questions from fellow students at school and were able to send back lots of information. This transformed the role of the children at the Mill and those back at school and prompted pupil led investigation, collaboration and feedback.
We will be sending in a full report and photos. Many thanks to everyone at Intuitive Media for such a brilliant service.
